In an industry-leading approach, EDF power solutions UK has signed an agreement in principle with Nordex to supply and support wind turbines for a number of UK onshore wind projects totalling nearly a gigawatt.

The agreement, which moves away from the more traditional project-by-project tender approach, is a more holistic way of collaborating with turbine manufacturers to unlock early project optimisation and improve the value of projects. In addition, the approach enables earlier supply chain engagement, better value engineering as well as the ability to plan more successfully for the future phases of construction and operations.

Jon O’Sullivan, Director of Onshore Wind at EDF power solutions UK commented: “This is a fresh, and more co-operative approach to procuring wind turbines, stepping away from traditional methods and looking at how we can add value by doing things differently. Our multi-discipline teams worked hard to ensure the process was robust and competitive, seeking not only to reduce costs but improve efficiency, enhance project delivery timelines and strengthen collaboration with the supply chain across the life-cycle of these projects

“This multi-project agreement will be a key enabler to allow our business to grow to achieve our ambitions of 10GW by 2035 within the UK and Ireland. We look forward to working with Nordex to find more win/win situations and successfully deploying cutting-edge technology on a significant part of our onshore wind portfolio. Hopefully, this is the first of several innovative agreements with key partners in our supply chain.”

Danny Hasledine, Director Sales, UK and Ireland at the Nordex Group commented: “This agreement reflects a shared commitment to building long-term value together. By moving beyond a project-by-project procurement model, we’re creating the opportunity to work more collaboratively, bringing technical expertise into projects earlier and delivering greater value over the long term. We’re excited to further strengthen our partnership with EDF power solutions UK and support the delivery of their ambitious pipeline with our proven technology and dedicated local expertise.”
