The UK government has today (31st July) published a budget revision for the Contract for Difference Allocation Round 6. The final overall budget is £1.555 billion, which is an overall increase of £530 million.
Matthieu Hue, Chief Executive of EDF Renewables UK, commented: “It is great to see that the government has taken action by increasing the budget for this year’s renewable energy auction. We must accelerate the deployment of renewables to meet our net zero targets and the Contract for Difference is a key mechanism to enable this.
“This is good news not just for the renewables industry but for the entire UK as it means we will be able to deliver greater amounts of clean energy, lower bills and energy security.
“We would have liked to have seen a greater budget increase for floating offshore wind as we believe it will play a pivotal role in the UK’s ability to reach our climate change targets.
“We look forward to continuing to work with UK government to meet 2030 ambitions.”
