Coldwinters Battery Storage is a proposed c.25MW battery electricity storage system in Co. Dublin

Planning permission was granted in February 2023 for a battery electricity storage system (BESS) in the townland of Coldwinters, north county Dublin, and later this year we intend to submit a revised planning application to optimise the site for the development of a c.25MW BESS project.

The proposed site would consist of the BESS, site substation, and cabling connecting it to the existing 220kV Finglas substation. Over the coming months we will be carrying out detailed environmental assessments, including an ecological impact assessment, noise assessments, and landscape and visual assessments, with the intention of submitting a planning application in Q4 2025.

Next Steps

  • Over the coming months we will be carrying out detailed environmental assessments, including an ecological impact assessment, noise assessments, and landscape and visual assessments.
  • We intend to submit a planning application for the project to Fingal County Council in Q1 2026.
  • Subject to planning permission, Coldwinters Battery Storage could be constructed and operational by 2029.
